Scarborough clients, supported from Vaughan

We look after Scarborough clinics, importers, plaza businesses and offices from our Vaughan office, with visits booked when equipment needs hands on it. Highway 401 is the route in. Most problems are handled remotely.

A managed agreement covers the helpdesk, monitoring and patching, Microsoft 365, restore-tested backups and security on every managed device, scoped per month to your users and devices. Support is 24/7, and serious incidents go to the same 24/7 line, (289) 582-9930.

02

Clinics near the hospitals

Scarborough Health Network runs the General, Centenary and Birchmount hospitals, each with a ring of private clinics, labs and pharmacies. Those practices hold personal health information under Ontario's PHIPA.

In practice that means encrypted laptops, separate logins for every staff member instead of a shared front-desk account, backups that are checked by restoring them, and patching outside appointment hours. See healthcare IT and dental IT.

03

Plazas in Agincourt and Malvern

Much of Agincourt and Malvern does business from plazas along Sheppard, Finch, Midland and Morningside: restaurants, grocers, pharmacies, travel and immigration consultants, tutoring centres, accountants and dental offices.

These businesses rarely have a server. They depend on the payment terminals, one front-counter computer, a printer, the cameras and email on the owner's phone.

What matters most is cheap. Payment terminals, staff computers, cameras and guest Wi-Fi go on separate networks, so a visitor's phone or a hacked camera cannot reach the till. Shared logins become individual accounts with MFA, and the internet-provider router is replaced with a firewall that is patched.

04

Importers, wholesalers and invoice fraud

The industrial and wholesale units around Steeles, Kennedy and Midland run warehouse systems, scanners and shared terminals that need their own accounts and a network kept apart from the office.

Import and trading firms are a favourite target for invoice fraud: a supplier's mailbox is compromised, or a look-alike domain sends new banking details. Protecting the accounting system and the shared accounts inbox comes first, along with PIPEDA's safeguards principle for customer information.

In our August 2026 study of 481 GTA business domains, only 20.6% enforced DMARC, and the earlier July 2026 pilot (118 GTA domains) found only 40% fully protected against spoofing. Test your domain with the email spoof check.

05

Town Centre and Consilium Place offices

The towers at Consilium Place by the 401 and McCowan, and the buildings around Scarborough Town Centre and Progress Avenue, hold professional firms, agencies and regional offices. The circuit comes up a riser the landlord controls and many neighbouring Wi-Fi networks share the airspace.

We keep the firewall and Wi-Fi under our own management, plan a second internet line where downtime costs real money, and set up device management so staff working from home get the same files and protection. When a firm moves suites, we order the circuit early and plan the cutover so the first morning starts with working email and printers.

06

New buildings along the Golden Mile

The Golden Mile on Eglinton East is being rebuilt with new housing and ground-floor commercial space. New storefronts and offices there need a fresh setup done properly: the internet circuit ordered early enough, Wi-Fi designed for the actual space, and email authentication configured before the first invoice goes out.

Firms with sites across the east end run on one agreement; we also cover Pickering, Markham and North York.

07

What a managed agreement includes

For a clinic on Ellesmere or an importer off Midland, the monthly agreement is sized by headcount, computers and locations. Inside it: one place for staff to send IT problems, updates pushed to every computer and server on a schedule, the firewall and Wi-Fi kept current, email accounts opened and closed as people join and leave, a backup we prove by restoring from it, and antivirus plus two-step sign-in on every account.

Buying hardware, moving to a new unit or opening a second location are separate projects with their own quote. Each service is named in the scope document, which settles any later question about what was covered.

08

Pay-as-you-go support or a monthly plan

Plenty of small Scarborough businesses run well on pay-as-you-go support. A plaza shop with one computer, a card terminal and a printer does not need a monthly plan. It needs the network set up properly once, and someone to call when something breaks.

A monthly plan starts to make sense around ten staff, or earlier if the business holds health or financial information, takes card payments online, or has had a mailbox compromised before. At that point the work that matters most, such as patching, backup testing and closing old accounts, is the work nobody does when IT is pay-as-you-go.

09

How staff get help

Anyone on staff can send us a problem, by phone or by email, without going through the owner first. Each request gets a reference number. The helpdesk is staffed 24/7. Most fixes are done over a remote connection the employee approves. Broken hardware means a booked visit from our Vaughan office.

For family businesses where the owner has been the help desk, the biggest change is that requests stop going through one person's phone. Everything is logged, so when the same printer fails for the third time, the record shows it and the fix is a replacement rather than another visit.

10

Security basics for small and family businesses

The attacks that reach small Scarborough firms are ordinary: a stolen email password, a fake invoice, a remote-access scam that starts with a phone call. The defences are ordinary too, and most cost little:

  • An individual login with MFA for every person, including the owner and any family members who help out.
  • No shared admin password. Admin access is a separate account used only when needed.
  • Payment terminals, cameras and guest Wi-Fi on separate networks from the office computers.
  • A backup that is not plugged in to the main computer, restored as a test at least quarterly.
  • A rule that any change to bank details is confirmed by phone, on a number you already had.
11

Cyber insurance questions

Insurers now ask detailed questions at renewal: is MFA on email and remote access, are backups offline or immutable, is endpoint protection on every device, is there a written incident plan. A wrong answer can cause problems when a claim is made, so answer from what is actually configured.

If your renewal form arrives and you are not sure, the cyber insurance readiness score walks through the usual questions. We can then close the gaps and give you the evidence the insurer asks for. If an incident happens, our cyber insurance claim forensics guide explains what the insurer will want preserved.

12

Nearby areas

Scarborough firms often have family, suppliers or a second site nearby. We also support Markham, Pickering, North York and the rest of Toronto, and several locations can run under one agreement.

13

Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace for a small firm

Many family businesses in Scarborough still run email on an address from the internet provider or a personal Gmail account. That works until a staff member leaves with the password, or a customer receives a fake invoice that looks like it came from you.

Moving to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace on your own domain fixes both. Each person gets their own account with MFA, the owner keeps admin control, and the domain can be protected with SPF, DKIM and DMARC. For most small firms the choice between the two comes down to the software you already use: if the accountant lives in Excel and the clinic software exports to Word, Microsoft 365 is the simpler path. We manage either through Microsoft 365 managed services or Google Workspace management.

14

Scarborough questions

Often the family IT person is good. The gaps are usually admin passwords only they know, no tested backup and no MFA. We can take those over or work alongside them through co-managed IT.
