Private IT and Cybersecurity for Families and Family Offices

Private IT and cybersecurity for principals, their families, their homes and the family office, from our offices in Vaughan, Toronto and Vancouver.

Who this is for

This service is for families whose personal technology has grown into something closer to a small company: a family office with its own Microsoft 365, a large home with a dozen connected systems, a cottage, travel, and staff who need some access but not all of it.

The risk is rarely a clever hack. It is usually an email account with a weak recovery option, a mobile number that can be ported out, a home network the integrator set up years ago, or a wire request that nobody phoned to confirm.

We take the parts nobody clearly owns and write down who is responsible for each one, so problems reach the right person.

Private client services

Each service has its own page with the detail, what we do and where our work stops.

03

What we usually fix first

The first week of most engagements is spent on the same short list, because these are the doors an attacker tries first.

  • Email recovery: every principal and family member has a recovery phone and email they actually control, and old recovery addresses are removed.
  • Mobile number: a port-out PIN or account lock is set with the carrier, so a SIM swap cannot quietly take over text-message codes.
  • Passwords: one password manager for the household, with shared vaults for staff and a separate vault for the principal.
  • Money movement: a call-back rule for any change to banking details, using a number already on file, never one from the email. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre publishes current fraud patterns.
  • Home network: guest, staff and smart-home devices on separate networks from the family's laptops and phones.

How an engagement runs

Every private client engagement follows the same four stages. The subpages refer back to this one.

  1. Confidential call

People, properties and concerns discussed in confidence before anything is written down.

  2. Inventory

Every account, device, network and property system listed with its owner and its recovery method.

  3. Secure

Sign-in, account recovery, networks and devices fixed in order of risk, starting with email and the mobile number.

  4. Look after

Updates and a direct line, with the records kept current as people, staff and properties change.

05

Where our work stops

We look after people, accounts, devices and the networks in homes and offices. We do not maintain aircraft, avionics or installed aircraft equipment, and we do not work on boats or marine systems. On aircraft, the operator owns the aircraft systems and we work on the passenger side: the devices and accounts people bring on board. The private aviation page sets out that split.

We also work alongside the family's existing office IT provider, home integrator or physical security company rather than replacing them.

06

If something has already happened

For account takeover, sextortion, a SIM swap or suspected stalkerware, call the 24/7 incident line at (289) 582-9930 before changing passwords from a device that may be compromised. The private client incident response page lists what to do in the first hour.

07

Frequently asked questions

Principals, executives and families in Toronto and the GTA who want their personal technology looked after with the same care as a well-run office. That usually covers the family office, the main residence, a cottage, travel and the people around the family, including household staff.
