What are managed IT security services?

IT security services for a Toronto business are the ongoing work of protecting its accounts, devices, network, email and data, and of responding when something gets through. IT Rapid Support delivers them as a managed service: we configure the controls, review the alerts and handle incidents, so security has a named owner every day.

IT Rapid Support provides managed security to businesses across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area from its Vaughan office, covering monitoring, managed firewalls, endpoint and email security, threat detection, and incident response. Organizations typically use it either to replace security work no one currently owns, or to add a dedicated security layer alongside an existing IT team. Businesses near our office can read how we deliver cybersecurity in Vaughan. The network layer, from firewalls and segmentation to intrusion monitoring and remote access, is covered by our network security services. If you are still comparing providers, our guide to cybersecurity services in Toronto sets out what a service should include, how it is priced and what to ask before you sign. Recovery from an incident depends on backups that restore, which is the job of our backup and disaster recovery services.

Managed security runs the controls. Deciding which risks the business accepts, and who answers for security to clients, insurers and regulators, is governance work, which our guide to virtual CISO (vCISO) services in Toronto explains, including when a business does not need one yet.

02

What managed IT security services include

The work starts with the controls that stop most incidents at small and mid-sized businesses. That means multi-factor authentication on every account, Microsoft 365 hardened with conditional access and separate admin roles, and endpoint detection and response on every managed laptop and server.

Patching runs on a schedule. Email filtering is paired with SPF, DKIM and DMARC so your domain is harder to forge. Firewalls are kept current, remote access is locked down, and backups sit out of reach of the office network and are restore-tested.

Around those controls sit the parts that keep them working: review of endpoint, sign-in and firewall alerts, a written incident response path, and plain reporting on what was found and fixed. Cloud-specific work for Microsoft 365 and Azure is on our cloud security services page.

03

Managed security vs an in-house security hire

A single in-house hire can know the business well, but cannot cover every night, every holiday and every tool alone. Managed security spreads that work across a team that already runs the tooling. Urgent problems outside business hours come through the 24/7 incident line.

The models are not exclusive. Businesses with an internal IT person usually keep them for day-to-day operations and hand us the security layer, with a written split of who owns each control, who may isolate a device and who is called during an incident. That avoids the most common failure in shared arrangements: each side assuming the other one is watching.

04

How monitoring and incident response work

Alerts from endpoints, Microsoft 365 sign-ins and firewalls are reviewed. Most are harmless and are closed with a note; the ones that matter, such as an impossible-travel login, a new mail forwarding rule on a finance mailbox or a device starting to encrypt files, are investigated straight away. Where the agreement allows, the affected account is disabled or the device isolated first, and your named contact is told what happened and what was done.

After containment comes cleanup: removing the cause, resetting credentials, restoring data from a clean backup if needed, and a written summary of the timeline and the changes made to prevent a repeat. Escalation paths and response targets are agreed in writing before the service starts. Businesses that want deeper detection add managed threat detection and response.

05

What an investigation can look like

One engagement began with a mailbox compromise at a pharma firm. We reconstructed the attacker's activity minute by minute from the logs, then scoped central identity and device management for its 40 to 50 staff so the same gap would not reopen. The pharma identity case study has the detail.

When a security event turns into a breach, our cyber incident response services take over from containment to the written report.

IT security services across Toronto, North York and the GTA

Monitoring, alert review and most response work are done remotely, so an office downtown, in North York, Etobicoke or Scarborough gets the same service as one next to our office at 7810 Keele St in Vaughan. Hardware work, such as replacing a firewall or collecting a compromised laptop, is arranged on site when it is needed.

Local pages describe how support runs in each area, including cybersecurity services in Toronto and IT support in North York. Work is scoped and quoted in writing after a review of what you run. Call (289) 582-9930 to arrange it.

07

Plans, onboarding and compliance

Onboarding steps, what a managed agreement covers and the privacy frameworks we help with are set out once on our managed IT plans page. Work outside an agreement is scoped and quoted in writing first.

08

Need to establish what already happened?

Monitoring protects what happens next. Our Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace digital forensics service examines the available audit, identity, email, and file-access evidence after business email compromise, insider activity, or another cloud incident.

09

Not sure where your gaps are?

Our IT risk self-check covers fifteen security control areas, backups, MFA, endpoint protection, admin accounts, email authentication and more, and ranks your weakest points in priority order. It takes a few minutes, needs no sign-up, and is a printable checklist: nothing is submitted or stored anywhere.

If email is the part you are unsure about, start with the email spoofing check for Canadian business domains. It reads your published SPF, DKIM and DMARC records in about ten seconds and grades them against the 481 mail-enabled GTA business domains we measured in August 2026, of which only 20.6% had DMARC set to block forged mail. It is ungated and nothing is stored.
